My Father in the Garden by Victoria Castillo
Oil

Victoria Castillo is a classically trained artist who paints people in light-infused settings, often gardens and intimate interiors.

“I love the way light and shadow play across the human form. I use it to create mood and to tell a story. My Father in the Garden is an ode to summer evenings. The imagery is from my childhood. After work, my father would roam the garden, cigar in hand, ruminating on the day’s events. I loved the earthy-sweet smell of his tobacco and the way the late afternoon sunlight danced across his crisp, bright shirts. He used these quiet moments in nature to transition from the cares of work to the pleasures of home – a feeling to which many people can relate.”

My Father in the Garden is receiving international recognition, including an award and feature in International Artists Magazine, the Eleanor Coble Best Figurative award from Women Artists of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine’s Award of Excellence, and inclusion in the prestigious Oil Painters of America’s National Exhibition.
