Artist and Collector Profiles

In speaking to Michael Diaz-Griffith, the young chronicler of his fellow young collectors, he describes symptoms he and others experience while pursuing their mission to acquire fine things.

Fine Art Today had the luxury of sitting down with amazing painter Nick Patten, who offered some engaging thoughts about his process, inspiration, and more. So impactful were they that we’ve decided to quote him in full.

At first glance, the portrait paintings of Nick Gebhart advertise the merits of strict adherence to tradition and a skill-based technique. Despite his highly detailed finish and faithful representation, however, the 31-year-old artist does not just replicate what is in front of him.

This artist is currently developing a body of figurative landscape paintings focused on the agricultural life of the Eastern Shore. “I love the landscape but especially when there is some evidence of the humans.”

“I also subscribe to the adage of, ‘If you love what you do, work will never be a four-letter word’ and make no mistake, I do.”

When it comes to subjects for his portraits and figures, this artist finds interest in a variety of people, in particular other creatives.

I have a degree in philosophy and a phd in mathematical logic. I was an academic researcher for a while and now I feel that everything is coming together in my work.

The process of creating art is therapeutic and provides a sense of purpose and meaning, a deeply fulfilling and rewarding experience.
